Somber city

11-3-2004

I've lived in New York City for six years, above a subway entrance where taxis congregate like fishermen on a favorite pier. This morning the taxis honked in hushed and quiet tones, too stunned and saddened to make the normal ruckus. The last time the mood of the city felt like this was after 9-11.
